Arthur R. Almquist, a shareholder the firm's Houston office, is Board Certified in Civil Trial and Personal Injury Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  His primary practice area is complex litigation, and he has tried and/or handled a wide variety of civil litigation including asbestos premises claims.  Art is a national trial team member for one of his clients.   He has defended benzene cases since the inception of that litigation.  He has also, represented individual companies or joint defense groups the litigation arising out of the Parker Hanifan plant in McAllen, Texas; the Longhorn Army Ammunition plant in Marshall, Texas; and the North Americas plant in Marshall, Texas where the claims involve mixed chemical exposures to the work force with varied alleged injuries

Additionally, Art has had extensive experience in the area of governmental liability and has represented San Jacinto County starting with the ACLU class action arising from the actions of the sheriff of the county that are chronicled in the book, Terror on Highway 59.  He has represented and tried § 1983 cases for the City of Galveston and the City of Nederland.  He has represented an engineering company in a professional liability claim arising out of the collapse of an offshore well support structure and has also handled and tried other cases involving professional liability claims and legal malpractice litigation.  He has tried products liability claims involving products ranging from aluminum ladders to truck tires and has represented parties on both sides of the docket in contested probate matters.  He has successfully argued cases before the Texas Supreme Court and United States Fifth Court of Appeals as well as several Texas Courts of Appeal.

Education

Art graduated from The University of Texas with a B.A. in Plan II, with high honors.  He graduated from The University of Texas School of Law, with honors.  While there, he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Board of Advocates.  He is board certified in Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Law by the Texas State Board of Legal Specialization.

Memberships and Honors

He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the American Bar Association, the DRI and the Houston Bar Association. He is a fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation and a former director of the Jefferson County Bar Association.
