Profile

Having joined MehaffyWeber in 1993, Michele has more than 16 years of diverse jury trial experience. She represents clients in general civil litigation, with a concentration in complex mass tort litigation (asbestos, benzene, butadiene) and products liability. She has handled matters in state and federal court involving products and premise liability, nursing home litigation and pharmaceutical defense. She has also coordinated state-wide litigation for several national clients. Michele practices in the firm’s Houston and Beaumont offices. She has tried cases to verdict in Harris, Jefferson, Orange, Hardin and Brazoria Counties.

Michele is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She has been a shareholder with the firm since 1999 and currently serves on the firm’s Management Committee. She is an advocate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), Houston Chapter.

Education and Bar Admissions

Michele graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting. She received her Juris Doctorate from Baylor University School of Law in 1992. While attending Baylor, Michele was a member of the Order of the Barristers.

Activities

Michele serves on numerous boards of civic and charitable organizations. She is a Past President of the Junior League of Beaumont, Land Manor and the Jefferson County Bar Association Auxiliary. Currently, she serves on the Alumni Boards of Lamar University, and Monsignor Kelly High School, and Boards of The Symphony of Southeast Texas, the Symphony League of Southeast Texas and the Beaumont Civic Ballet. She received The Athena Award from the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce in 2008.

Memberships and Honors

Michele is an active member of the Jefferson County Bar Association and acts as an attorney volunteer for the Pro Bono Program. She served as President of the Jefferson County Young Lawyers' Association in 2000-2001 and was named the Jefferson County Bar Association Young Lawyer of the Year for 2002. Currently, she is the Vice President for The Jefferson County Bar Association and serves on the Board of The Michelle F. Mehaffy Inn of Court. Michele is the Vice President for Programs of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, and is a member of the Defense Research Institute, the International Association of Defense Counsel and the State Bar of Texas. She is also a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Texas Monthly magazine named Michele a “Rising Star” in 2005 and a “Super Lawyer®” in 2005-2008. She was also recognized as a "Top 50" Female Super Lawyer and Top 100 Houston Region Super Lawyer. She was named a "Super Lawyer®, Corporate Counsel Edition" in Civil Litigation Defense in 2008. Michele was named by HTexas magazine as a "2007-2008 Top Lawyer's in Houston."
