Bob Black has been with MehaffyWeber since his graduation in 1980, becoming a shareholder in 1985 and the managing shareholder in 1998. His practice is concentrated in civil litigation, arbitration and mediation - areas in which he is a sought after speaker. Bob is the President of the State Bar of Texas (2011-2012) and just completed his term as President-Elect (2010-2011).

Bob successfully defended a multinational corporation in a complex patent infringement case. He has tried numerous other cases including many personal injury suits. As a mediator, he has mediated more than 3,400 disputes and has arbitrated many more.

Education
Bob graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso in 1977. He attended college on scholarships provided by the National Honor Society and by the debate program. In 1980, he received his Juris Doctorate, summa cum laude, from Texas Tech University School of Law. He was an editor of the Texas Tech Law Review and graduated Order of the Coif. He has been named the Distinguished Alumnus of both the University of Texas at El Paso and Texas Tech University School of Law.

Memberships and Honors
Bob is the President of the State Bar of Texas (2011-2012) and has completed his term as President-Elect (2010-2011). He previously served as Chair of the State Bar Board of Directors (2006-2007). The Board honored Black in 2009 with a Certificate of Merit for his leadership and outstanding contributions to the legal profession and he received a Presidential Citation in 2006 for outstanding service. He is a former Trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation (2007-2010) and served on its Executive Committee. Bob is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the American Bar Association. He is a past President of the Jefferson County Bar Association. He has been recognized in the Best Lawyers in America® since 2003 and was recently named "Best Lawyers' 2012 Beaumont Personal Injury Litigation - Defendants Lawyer of the Year." He has been named a "Texas Super Lawyer®" in Texas Monthly magazine since 2004.
