Robert D. Spellings

Before joining MehaffyWeber, P.C. in the firm's Austin office, Robert D. Spellings has been engaged in private practice in both Texas and Washington, D.C. For most of his early career he worked in public service as Chief of Staff to both the Speaker of the House in Texas Legislature and the Lieutenant Governor. He also was appointed as the States' Chief Deputy Comptroller under Bob Bullock. He ended his Texas state employment in 1982, serving as a Special Assistant Attorney General under Mark White after two years. Since then, Robert has been engaged in private practice both in Texas and Washington, D.C. He has been involved primarily with Regulatory and Administrative matters with an emphasis on governmental relations. His clients have included major Fortune 500 Companies, industry trade groups, and others such as the Texas Bar Association and the Texas Business Law Foundation.

Education
Robert graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 1963 and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas Law School in 1967.
Activities
Mr. Spellings very active in the community, serving on numerous boards of civic and charitable organizations such as the Board of Directors for both the Austin Club and the Annette Strauss Institute.
Memberships and Honors
Robert is a member of the University of Texas Hall of Honor Court and Letterman's Club. He is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the District of Columbia Bar Foundation, Foreman of the Travis County Grand Jury Association (twice) and a Life Member of the University of Texas Ex-Students Association.
