O.J. Weber, a beloved founder of the firm of MehaffyWeber died Saturday, June 5, 2010. He joins his beautiful and gracious wife Ann and his son Jim and grandson Jon. He is survived by his daughter Carol Ann and her husband Bob Paddock and his daughter-in-law Karen Weber, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many friends and other family members.
O.J. started his brilliant legal career at BakerBotts in Houston and soon joined Cecil and Keith in Beaumont and established a firm that still carries his name. He loved the law and the firm and also loved working with young lawyers and became a mentor to many. He left an indelible impression on all the attorneys he worked with through the years. He and Ann Weber were delightful people who enjoyed themselves and cared for other people.
O. J. Weber was born in Bay City, Texas on July 12, 1920. O. J. Weber graduated from The University of Texas with B.A., 1941, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. from Yale University where he was the Director of the Moot Court and the Barristers Union. Mr. Weber also worked for Lyndon B. Johnson from 1941 to 1943.
Mr. Weber was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the America Bar Foundation. He was a member of the House of Delegates from 1984 - 88. He was a member of the American Bar Association and was listed in "The Best Lawyers in America", both in Business Litigation and Personal Injury Litigation.
Mr. Weber was past Regional Vice President of the Federation of Insurance & Corporate Counsel, Ex-Officio Section Chairman, FICC, Toxic Tort & Environmental Law; and Maritime Law. He was Director of the State Bar of Texas from 1980-1983; Vice Chairman of the State Commission on Judicial Conduct from 1975-1981 and a Life Fellow and former member of the Board of Trustees of the Texas Bar Foundation. He was also a Founding Member and Past Director and Vice-President of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel.
O.J. Weber was involved in many civic and charitable organizations both locally and statewide and was on the Board of Trustees for Abilene Christian University. He also was a frequent lecturer and writer at legal seminars and for legal publications
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 11 at the Bering Drive Church of Christ, 1910 Bering Drive, Houston, Texas.
