MehaffyWeber attorney Kate Broussard is a hardworking and dedicated member of our legal team. Kate has shown an extraordinary work ethic, even before joining the firm this past September.

Kate was extremely active in school organizations during her undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, where she graduated cum laude. She was awarded multiple scholarships, including the International Education Fee Scholarship, the Southerland Aggie Leader Scholarship, and the PanHellenic Academic Excellence Scholarship. She was a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, the Sigma Alpha Lambda Honor Society, the 12th Man Student Foundation, the Freshman Leadership Development Retreat Team, and served as a canoeing instructor for the Texas A&M Department of Health and Kinesiology. Kate also assisted with research on how social media impacts learning and development in the workplace.

While working on her undergraduate degree, Kate volunteered for several years at Phoebe’s Home for Domestic Violence Victims. Kate continued her volunteer work while attending Baylor Law School, where she participated in the Public Service Program, completing over 200 hours of public service. Her work earned her the distinction of Public Interest Scholar and the Pro Bono and Public Service Award – Bronze and Platinum Levels. Kate was especially involved in the Baylor Veteran’s Clinic and with the Baylor Pro Bono Transactional Team, which gave her a unique opportunity to speak with veterans about their legal problems and gain valuable experience drafting estate planning and business organization documents. For her work with veterans, she was awarded the Baylor Law School Veterans Clinic “Boots on the Ground” Award. Kate also served as a legal clinic volunteer at Mission Waco where she assisted low income individuals with legal issues.

During her time at Baylor, Kate was selected to serve as a Judicial Intern for The Honorable Zack Hawthorn in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, where she conducted research and drafted legal documents. She also won the Forth Worth Real Estate Council Award for students with outstanding performance in the Texas Land Practice course at Baylor Law School and the Joe Cannon Professionalism Award for exemplifying a commitment to professionalism and integrity.

Kate began working with MehaffyWeber during law school as a Summer Law Clerk assisting with various estate planning and probate issues. When Kate graduated law school, MehaffyWeber was excited to have her join the team as an attorney in the Business Practice Group. She handles estate planning, probate, elder law, and business law matters.

Kate is an active member of the Junior League of Beaumont. This year she received the Provisional of the Year Award, which celebrates a new member who has gone above and beyond in exemplifying the organization’s commitment to public service. Through the Junior League of Beaumont, she chaired the Provisional Class Project “Hope for Henderson.” Henderson Middle School, a school in Sour Lake, Texas, was flooded and badly damaged during Hurricane Harvey, and is now operating in portable buildings. The project provided Henderson Middle School with over $12,000 in much-needed supplies for teachers, and furnished and decorated their teacher’s lounge to give them a sense of normalcy and a place to foster camaraderie.

Kate is a member of the State Bar of Texas’ Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section and Business Law Section. She is also a member of the Jefferson County Bar Association, the Jefferson County Bar Auxiliary, the Southeast Texas Estate Planning Council, the Texas Aggie Bar Association, and the Jefferson County Young Lawyers Association, where she is currently serving as a Director.
