Kate Broussard

Kate Broussard Thorne is an attorney at MehaffyWeber in the firm’s business practice group with a concentration in estate planning and probate law, elder law, corporate law, and real estate transactions and oil and gas work. Kate has successfully handled and completed complex probate matters as well as guardianship proceedings. In her practice she is also frequently involved in trust creation and business formation. Kate is experienced handling estate administrations as well as in negotiating and reviewing purchase and sale agreements, assignments, and other documents related to real estate transactions. Her experience also includes special needs trusts and advising on Medicaid-related transfers.

Kate has maintained a lifelong commitment to community service and volunteerism. Kate was especially involved in the Baylor Veteran’s Clinic and with the Baylor Pro Bono Transactional Team while in law school. For her work with veterans, she was awarded the Baylor Law School Veterans Clinic “Boots on the Ground” Award in 2017. That same year, she also won the Joe Cannon Professionalism Award from Baylor Law School for exemplifying a commitment to professionalism and integrity. During her time at Baylor, Kate was selected to serve as a Judicial Intern for The Honorable Zack Hawthorn in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. As an attorney, Kate continues to volunteer through the Jefferson County Bar Association Pro Bono Program and Veteran’s Legal Clinic.

In the community, Kate is an active member of the Symphony League of Beaumont, the Junior League of Beaumont and the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Organization. In 2018, she received the Junior League Provisional of the Year Award, which celebrates a new member who has gone above and beyond in exemplifying the organization’s commitment to public service. Kate is a member of the State Bar of Texas’ Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section and Business Law Section. She is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Jefferson County Bar Association, the Southeast Texas Estate Planning Council, the Texas Aggie Bar Association, and the Jefferson County Young Lawyers Association, where she currently serves on the board. She was recently recognized by Super Lawyers by Thomson Reuters in the Texas Rising Stars list in 2022-2024. Kate was also recognized in The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch for Real Trusts and Estates (2022-2024) and was listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for Real Estate Law (2022-2024).
