Louis M. Scofield, Jr. is a shareholder with 41 years of experience as a defense courtroom lawyer. He has tried scores of cases in virtually every county of Southeast Texas, expanding beyond this geographic area into the surrounding regions at the request of several clients. He was named the The Best Lawyers in America® 2020 Insurance Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Beaumont, and was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America  for Personal Injury Litigation-Defendants every year since 2013 and the Texas Super Lawyers by Thomson Reuters List every year since 2005.

Mr. Scofield attended the University of Texas School of Law where he graduated with honors. During his time in law school, Mr. Scofield served as a Court Investigator for the 98th District Court in Travis County, Texas and as Teaching Quizmaster for Dean Leon Green. Upon graduating law school, he began handling a broad range of matters including insurance defense, product liability claims (trucks, hydraulics, pneumatics, valves, ATVs, tires, motorcycles, electronics, manufactured homes, and automobiles) Deceptive Trade Practices Act claims, negligence claims, professional liability claims (engineers, agents and attorneys), Insurance Code claims, and cases arising under various specialized statutes, including the F.E.L.A., Jones Act and the Longshore Act. He is also national counsel for a Fortune 300 company on certain products liability cases.
