Richard “Trey” Barton is a defense trial lawyer that represents a wide variety of clients, including manufacturers, oil and gas companies, property owners, road contractors, and trucking companies. Mr. Barton handles all aspects of a lawsuit from start to finish.
Mr. Barton is a second career attorney, and formerly served as a high school basketball coach and special education teacher at Katy High School. After six years of coaching and teaching, he changed his career path and attended South Texas College of Law. During his time in law school, he held judicial clerkships in Fort Bend County, and worked as a law clerk for both Barry & Sewart PLLC and Johanson & Fairless, LLP. Mr. Barton graduated from law school with honors in 2 ½ years, and then joined Johanson & Fairless, LLP as an associate attorney. His practice was focused on personal injury litigation and other civil law matters. In 2018, Mr. Barton joined MehaffyWeber where he handles the defense of personal injury matters for his various clients. He works closely with both the insurance carrier and his client to promptly and thoroughly investigate the facts of the case, implement a defensive strategy that develops and highlights favorable aspects of the case, and pursue a positive outcome by way of trial verdict or settlement.
