In addition to her outstanding legal work, Michele Smith is extremely active in the community and frequently provides pro bono legal services for a wide variety of organizations and events. When Jefferson Country experienced a backup of divorce cases for indigent clients, Michele and several other MehaffyWeber attorneys stepped up to provide a four-hour pro bono clinic to alleviate the load. Michele is also well known in the legal community for serving as a past president of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, as well as a past president of the Jefferson County Bar Association, and the In House and Law Firm Management Chair of the International Association of Defense Counsel. She is an active member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and currently serves on the board of the Lamar University Foundation.
Michele has also volunteered at organizations and events including the Spindletop Spin bike ride to raise funds for legal-aid programs, the Symphony of Southeast Texas, and the Shorkey Center, which offers physical rehabilitation services for children. Michele’s dedication to giving back to her community earned her the Jefferson County Bar Association’s Community Service Award, the Neches River Festival’s Citizen of the Year Award, Lamar University’s Distinguished Young Alumnus, and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel’s President’s Award.

In addition to being recognized for her outstanding commitment to serve others in her community, Michele has also been recognized by numerous legal industry organizations throughout her distinguished legal career. She is one of only a small percentage of lawyers to be Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
