Julia Matheny maintains a varied trial practice that focuses primarily on personal injury defense and first and third-party insurance litigation. Julia has also defended contractors against defective design and construction claims in multi-party construction cases involving commercial and residential properties. In addition, Julia has experience representing employers and employees in disputes arising from covenants not to compete and defending employers against claims of various types of employment discrimination, retaliation, and sexual harassment and against wage-and-hour claims brought as collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Julia also has a broad range of appellate experience, having served as a staff attorney at the Ninth Court of Appeals in Beaumont for over three years. In that position, Julia researched and analyzed complex appellate issues and drafted legal opinions in a wide variety of civil and criminal cases.

  • Represented and defended electric utility under Chapter 95 of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code in a wrongful death action involving the electrocution death of a subcontractor’s employee.
  • Represented corporate defendants in numerous personal injury disputes involving automobile accidents, 18-wheeler accidents, bus accidents, slip-and-fall incidents, and product defect cases.

  • Represented fire sprinkler subcontractor in multi-party construction design and defect case involving 20-story residential high-rise.
  • Represented lath and plaster subcontractor in multi-party construction defect case involving six-story hotel.
  • Represented owners of medical facility in breach of contract action to recover damages for defective repairs performed to x-ray equipment.
  • Represented attorneys in legal malpractice action arising from prisoner civil rights dispute.
  • Member of litigation team for international automobile manufacturer in a complex commercial breach of contract dispute with diesel engine supplier.
  • Represented electric utility company in a variety of matters, including property damage suits, safety code violations, automobile accidents, and electrocution cases.
  • Represented employers, including a telecommunications company and an automotive retailer, in wage-and-hour collective actions brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Defended employers against discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation claims brought under state and federal statutes, including Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act.
